The University of Tennessee is committed to providing its students, faculty and staff with a diverse environment in which to learn and work. The UT System Office of Equity and Diversity develops statewide policies and programs that promote diversity in student recruitment and retention, faculty and staff recruitment and retention, academic experiences and community outreach.

Equity and diversity offices exist at each campus and institute to ensure unit-specific needs and compliance. The Diversity Advisory Council, comprised of students, faculty and staff from across the state, works to present strategies to the president for how the University can become more effective and efficient in advancing diversity.

“Supporting an environment rich in diverse perspectives, cultures, beliefs and experiences allows us to foster a more thoughtful and welcoming community and strengthen our ability to work cooperatively toward our core mission.”

– UT President Joe DiPietro
